Exhibition / Ornela Vorpsi / “Providence” / COD / April 11th – June 30th, 2018 / Tirana

Ornela Vorpsi started her artistic journey as a painter. She first studied at the Academy of Arts in Tirana, to continue at the renowned Academy of Brera in Milan (Italy). Ornela has also internationally proved herself as a writer, with a distinctive writing style, both in short stories and novels, whereas this exhibition “Providence” presents her as a visual artist, who uses the mediums of painting, photography and video to interact with the public, nowadays at an international level.
The exhibition is entitled “Providence” and it will be opened for the public at the premises of COD/ADB (Center for Openness and Dialogue) in Tirana, from April 11th to June 30th 2018. At the center of Vorpsi’s work is the woman’s experience, in the midst of her emotional and moral ups and downs, reflecting her inner and outside worlds. The works of Vorpsi reflect sensitive themes, which are emotionally strong, yet have a philosophical and poetic twist. They are infused with delicate female notes and an undeniable sense of a strong personality, deflecting the attention away from the historical and political events.
The woman is the character at the center of the self portrait paintings entitled: “Red”, “Blue”, “Grey”, also present in Vorpsi’s photography, which is equally important to this solo exhibition. The self portraits, the most daring creations of the exhibition, embody different periods and experiences, as well as different personal experiences. But what remains untouched from one painting to the other is Vorpsi’s strong artistic power.
The series “Promenade” is intriguing, exposing the relations between generations through experiences and reactions. The artist herself states in the curatorial concept of the exhibition: “My artistic research needs to dig deep into the human soul. My subjects are faces, bodies. I observe through the painting as they “rest” in this “non-evident” existence.” Photography is a second medium used by Vorpsi to capture the inner world in some of her works, such as in “Nothing obvious.”
For the most part of the exhibition, the nude prevails. The uniqueness of portraying the woman from this angle is that she directly confronts the reality, without subordinating to it, but without denaturing herself either. Hence, Vorpsi’s photography communicates a strong, yet delicate woman. It almost looks like the artist herself is curious about this unreasonable contradiction.
“Nevermore”, a short video lasting 3’-3’’ concludes that time brings death and that time runs only one way. The video, deep in its meaning, is an elegantly captured motion picture on the reflection of the inner world of a woman’s sacrifice for the sake of whomever or whatever enters her souls. Almost every art work displayed in the exhibition triggers strong feelings, which create strong memories that cannot be easily erased from the memory of the attentive public.

Ornela Vorpsi, e cila e nis jetën e saj artistike si piktore, me Liceun Artistik dhe Akademinë e Arteve në Tiranë, për të vazhduar më pas studimet në të famshmen Brera të Milanos (Itali), përpos lëvrimit të gjinive letrare të tregimit dhe romanit, shfaqet për publikun shqiptar edhe përmes një trinomi tjetër artistik: pikturës, fotografisë dhe videos, duke krijuar kështu një larmi ndërmjetësish përmes të cilëve ajo ndërvepron me shoqërinë, tashmë në nivel ndërkombëtar.
Bëhet fjalë për ekspozitën personale titulluar “Providence”, e cila paraqitet për publikun në mjediset e COD (Center for Openess and Dialogue) / ADB (Agjencia për Dialog dhe Bashkëqeverisje) në Tiranë, përgjatë harkut kohor 11.04.2018 – 30.06.2018. Çka bie parësisht në sy është se epiqendër e veprës së Vorpsit është gruaja dhe përjetimet e saj në të gjitha ulje-ngritjet shpirtërore dhe morale, të lidhura këto me tregues të brendshëm dhe të jashtëm. Krijimet e Vorpsit trajtojnë tematika shumë delikate, por njëkohësisht të forta emocionalisht, të cilat përcillen filozofikisht dhe poetikisht. Ato përshkohen kryesisht nga fije brishtësie femërore dhe force të pamohueshme karakteri e qëndrojnë larg ndikimeve të ngjarjeve me karakter historiko-politik.
Figura femërore përbën thelbin e ciklit të autoportreteve titulluar: “E kuqe”, “Blu”, “Gri”; por edhe të cikleve të tjera fotografike. Cikli autoportret, i cili u përket krijimeve më të fuqishme të ekspozitës në fjalë, ngërthen në vetvete periudha të ndryshme, përjetime të ndryshme po ashtu. Ajo që nuk ndryshon nga njëri autoportret në tjetrin është forca artistike e realizimit.
Një tjetër cikël me interes për shikuesin është ai i emërtuar “Shëtitje”, i cili paraqet marrëdhënie brezash përmes gjendjesh e reagimesh përkatëse. Vetë artistja, shprehur në tekstin përshkrues të ekspozitës, thotë: “Krijimi im artistik ka nevojë të gërmojë në thellësitë e shpirtit njerëzor. Subjektet e mia të momentit janë fytyrat, trupat. Observoj nëpërmjet pikturës, si ato “ulen” në këtë ekzistencë “joevidente”. Fotografia është një tjetër rrugë e fuqishme artistike përmes së cilës Vorpsi kumton e i jep zë së brendshmes nëpërmjet disa cikleve, si për shembull, ai me titull “Nothing obvious”.
Përgjithësisht, është nudoja ajo që mbizotëron në shkrepjet fotografike të artistes. E veçanta e pasqyrimit të femrës apo gruas nga ky këndvështrim qëndron pikërisht në të parët e së vërtetës në sy, pa u nënshtruar, njëherazi “pa u burrëruar” (pa u denatyruar) për ta përballuar realitetin. Në çdo gjendje të ndodhshme, gruaja në fotografinë e Vorpsit është sa e fortë, po aq delikate. Gati-gati, edhe vetë autorja duket se bëhet kureshtare ndaj kësaj kundërshtie thurur përtej mundësive të së arsyeshmes.
Videoja me titull “Nevermore”, me metrazh të shkurtër prej 3 minutash e 3 sekondash, nga vetë titulli çon në përfundimin se rendja e kohës përafron dukurinë e vdekjes, apo ndryshe idenë e moskthimit pas. Videoja, e cila zgjon mjaft interes si për brendinë, por po aq edhe për elegancën shtrirë pothuaj në të gjitha elementet realizuese, paraqet një grua e cila vetëflijohet në emër të sakrifikimit për gjithçka apo gjithkënd që arrin të hyjë në zemrën e saj. Pothuaj çdo krijim i kësaj ekspozite zotëron aftësinë e shkaktimit të përshtypjes së thellë e për pasojë krijimin e mbresave që nuk shlyhen lehtë në kujtesë për lexuesin e vëmendshëm të artit.
