Harabel Contemporary Art Platform is pleased to invite you to have a talk with Pakistani artist Basir Mahmood. Basir Mahmood was born in Lahore (Pakistan) in 1985; he currently resides between Lahore and Amsterdam. The talk will revolve around what he calls the artist’s trajectory, starting with earlier works during his career.
Since 2011, as part of his practice, he has participated in various artists’ residences around the world. Though he started with “Schloss Solitude Academy” in Stuttgart (2011-12) he came to “Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten” (2016-17) in Amsterdam where he eventually ended it, considering this as his last residential participation.
Mahmood often argues that he became an artist by seeing other artists, including members of his family, as well as those he met during his artistic residences. Consequently, it can be said that learning by observing others is also well worth it in his line of work. He often gains various skills and professions in order to convey what he sees, reaching an ever-wider audience.
The artist has selected some of his films for this meeting as a way to reveal his own thinking progress to further continue on a public talk. The movies that will be screened are: “Manmade”; “My Father”; “In a Move to the Better Side”; “Thank You For Coming”; “Power Between Weak”; “Practicing Procedures of Killing”; “Monument of Arrival and Return”; “All voices are mine”.
